The Community Assembly of Long Eaton is located in a town in the Erewash district of Derbyshire, situated just north of the River Trent, about six miles south west of Nottingham and nine miles south east of Derby. Recorded in 1086 Domesday Book as Aitone in the hundred of Morleystone, County Derbyshire, origins of the name possibly being "'farm between streams' and 'low-lying land.'
It was a farming settlement that grew up close to the lowest crossing point of the River Erewash. With a population of 32 households it was listed as 'ploughland: 12 ploughlands. 13 men's plough teams. Meadow 40 acres' with an annual value of 8 pounds to Tenant- in-Chief, St John, Bishop of Chester.
