Community Assembly of Monkton Wyld

The Community Assembly of Monkton Wyld is located in a hamlet midst the wooded valleys and rolling hills of Dorset and near to Bridport and close to the Devon border. The land was once owned by the monks of Forde Abbey and Monkton means of the Monks. Wyld is from the word 'wil' meaning wile or trick and could be a reference to a trap. The cover afforded by the woodland makes this excellent cover for poachers.

Work has begun connecting the community to the soil, the recreation of an old hedgerow to provide not only a windbreak but also an edible boundary hedge that will encompass a permaculture growing space. On the land sits some buildings which will become the spaces for learning, meeting, healing and eating. Our first job was to upcycle part of a building into glass house propagation room, a little bit of healing took place and a touch of celebration to celebrate and thank the land.
