About this Assembly
The Community Assembly of Nailsworth is located in a town and civil parish in the Stroud District in Gloucestershire in the south west of the British Isles. It lies in one of the Stroud Valleys in the Cotswolds south of Stroud which is northeast of Bristol and Bath.
In ancient times, Nailsworth was a settlement at the confluence of the Avening Valley and the Woodchester Valley, on the Nailsworth Stream. Among many notable historic medieval buildings in the area are Beverston Castle and Owlpen Manor. Nailsworth Town Hall was originally a chapel for a dissenting congregation which was built in 1867.
In the modern era, Nailsworth was a small mill town and centre for brewing, powered by Nailsworth Stream. It was connected directly to the national rail network between 1867 and 1947 at the terminus of the Stonehouse and Nailsworth Railway.
Today, Nailsworth is a popular loction in the Summer for walkers.There is a farmers' market every fourth Saturday of the month with local events including the Nailsworth Festival which is still announced by a town crier.
