About this Assembly
The Community Assembly of Pibsbury is located in a small hamlet within the parish of Huish Episcopi in Somerset in the Territory of Kernow in the British Isles. The area features countryside surroundings and is not far from Taunton. The wider Huish Episcopi area, which includes Pibsbury, has evidence of prehistoric activity, including discoveries of mammoth fossils and prehistoric remains. Similar to nearby Wearne, the area was once a Roman-British settlement with various artifacts having been found throughout the region.
Pibsbury historically fell under the jurisdiction of the Manor of Huish Episcopi, which was held by the Bishops of Wells from Saxon times until the 19th century. Traditionally, Pibsbury has been a rural, agricultural settlement which was sold from church ownership in 1859. The area is located near Langport, which was a significant Saxon burh (fortified town) in the 10th century and the site of a crucial Civil War battle in 1645.
Today, Pibsbury remains a quiet, largely residential and rural hamlet, reflecting the traditional character of the Somerset countryside.
