Community Assembly of Bishopswood

The Community Assembly of Bishopswood is located in a traditional village nestled in the Blackdown Hills, where the same families have run the farms and worked the land for generations.

Bishopswood is on the Devon and Somerset border - just in Somerset.

It's like time slows down here and no-one has a care in the world, and why wouldn't you want more of that? There are local nature reserves at Bishopswood Meadows and Otterhead Lakes, both fantastic for a stroll and for spotting the flora and fauna. There’s a lovely walk through the woods to the neighbouring village of Buckland St Mary, and plenty more footpaths to explore within the parish, so Bishopswood is a great base for walking.

Bishopswood Meadows is part of the Somerset Wildlife Trust. The reserve comprises five fields on a gentle north-facing slope with the River Yarty at the base. Much of the wildlife interest at the reserve is due to its history relating to the lime burning industry. The mix of calcareous (lime rich) and neutral soil conditions have provided habitat for a good range of plant life.
