About this Assembly
The Community Assembly of Foxhole (Cornish: Tollowarn) is located in a village in mid Cornwall which is part of the Kernow Territory. Foxhole is situated on the B3279 road between St Austell and Newquay and is contiguous with the neighbouring village of Carpalla, home to a china clay pit.
The first recorded settlements at Foxhole date back to the Middle Ages, when the moors all around the village were worked for tin lodes cropping out at the surface.
The village is overshadowed by Watch Hill, with its four ancient tumuli (mounds of earth and stones), on the east side, and on the west side by St Stephen's Beacon. This was called King Pippin's Mount in ancient times, when Pippin is said to have been buried in a barrow within a fortified enclosure at the summit of the beacon. The whole structure was destroyed by miners seeking stone to build an engine house - remnants of which can still be seen today.
